Is Hip-Hop History 4th Annual Conference Latino Panel

This year’s fourth annual “Is Hip-Hop Histor” conference began with a reception for “Uncle” Ralph McDaniels to recognize his 30th anniversary of hosting the first hip-hop video program Video Music Box.
The keynote speaker was professor Don C. Sawyer III of Quinnipiac University whose topic was “Sociology of Hip-Hop Culture”. Sawyer also works with high school students, he brought four of his students who are aspiring MC’s to the conference and they displayed their skills with a brief performance.
Following the keynote address there was a panel discussion regarding Latinos in Hip-Hop. The panel included:
- Martha Diaz, hip-hop scholar-in-residence at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and director, Hip-Hop Education Center
- Charlie Chase, the legendary deejay of The Cold Crush Brothers
- Jorge “Pop Master Fabel” Pabon, vice president of Rock Steady Crew
- Frankie Cutlass, producer, deejay and artist
